The Workshop on Monetary and Financial Issues in Japan

   The Economic and Social Research Institute, Cabinet Office, had taken up Monetary Policy and Non-Performing Loan Problems by ESRI Economic Policy Forum, and endeavored to clarify the points of argument and challenge an extensive argument as much as possible.
   Moreover, the ESRI held the Workshop on Non-Performing Loans Problems in October, 2001 to utilize the past experiences of U.S. with participation of the American specialists as well as Japanese specialists.
   However, the importance of solution for Non-Performing Loan problems has increased further with aggravation of deflation in the current Japanese economy.
   Based on such a situation, the ESRI held the Workshop in March 20 and 22, 2002 to discuss about the NPL problems and Monetary Policy under deflation. The attendant specialists from Japan and U.S. enhanced the argument and exchanged opinions about the prescription over Japanese economy.
