The Workshop on Tax Reforms in Japan

At present, the problem of the tax reforms constitutes an important subject in the structural reform that is widely discussed in the context of the "broad but light" income taxation system contributing to the economic revitalization, corporation tax system necessary to enhance international competitiveness of business enterprises and review of national and local tax systems.
The Economic and Social Research Institute, Cabinet Office, had taken National tax reforms and Local Public Finance by ESRI Economic Policy Forum and endeavored to clarify the points of argument and challenge an extensive argument as much as possible.
However, for tax reforms, it is important by analyzing theoretical and positively experience of the West, such as reform under the Reagan and Thatcher Administrations in addition to experience of our country to advance examination about the policy for solution.
Based on such situation, the ESRI held the Workshop in September 12,2002. The attendant specialists from Japan and U.S. enhanced the argument and exchanged opinions about Directivity of Tax Reform in Japan.
