[Goals of the Conference]
Social capital is a concept based on human capital and refers to invisible capital relating to human and social relationships such as trust, mutual benefit, norms and networks, although the definition of social capital varies slightly from researcher to researcher. The importance of social capital for economic growth and development has been pointed out and has become a new interdisciplinary topic that links such fields as economics, management studies, political science, sociology, and education. Attention is also being paid to social capital from the perspective of the revival of the Japanese economy. Leading experts in this field from Japan and overseas have been invited to this conference to introduce recent themes related to social capital and to discuss the relationship between social capital and economics, including the possibility that it can contribute to the revival of the Japanese economy.
