The Economic and Social Research Institute, Cabinet Office, with the collaboration of NBER and other research institutes has been holding the international forums for two years in order to promote the wide-ranging discussion on such policy issues as non-performing loans, money and banking, tax system and others from the international perspective.
   To deepen further the above-mentioned discussion, we decided to hold a forum in connection with Overcoming Deflation and Revitalizing the Japanese Economy constituting the urgent tasks for the Japanese economy and to examine the policy issues necessary for the economic revival from the standpoints of deflation, monetary policy and corporate revitalization.
   Based on such situation, the ESRI held the International Workshop on Sept.18,2003.The attendant specialists from Japan, U.S. and Korea enhanced the argument and exchanged opinions about Overcoming Deflation and Revitalizing the Japanese Economy.
