  With the goal of conducting broad discussions from a global perspective on important policy issues, the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) has continuously held international conferences since 2001, with the cooperation of institutes such as NBER (National Bureau of Economic Research) of the United States.
  Japanese current economy stands at important turning point to return to normal growth after the so called "lost decade" followed the emergence and collapse of the bubble economy.
  On this opportunity, ESRI launched the study group and subcommittee including external intellectuals with the purpose of researching "Japan's Economy and Macroeconomic Policies from 1980 to 2007".
  This time, experts with extensive academic experience were invited from the foreign countries, and members of the study group and the subcommittee in each field to engage in lively discussions to deepen the examination of "Japanese economic policies from 1980 to 2007" in addition to the industry origins of Japanese economic growth and measurement of inflation rate in Japan.
